Notes from meeting with Marie, Matt, and Valaina Shepherd

Regarding Communication Issues

  • Marie reported that she saw Danny on Saturday and he needs more communication from us about what we are deciding for Monday night.
  • Matt offered to create a discussion board for us on his private web space but the wiki and listserv should suffice we think.
  • Valaina Shepherd is butrlfygirl on Twitter and Plurk, email maherv@pwcs.edu
  • Add Matt, Fara, and Valaina to the listserv
  • Louise, Terra, has badges for SL ISTE members to wear left over that she will give us to use for VSTE. She also has the name of the company they ordered them from.
  • Kim, as Thunder, will contact all VSTE Group members in SL and ask the following:
    Are you attending the VSTE Conference in Feb?
    Are you still active in SL?
    Would you be interested in attending an inworld session at VSTE and helping newbies with SL?

Regarding Building VSTE Island

  • Kim sent a message to neoznet Watts regarding meeting with him and getting another bid on our VSTE HQ, 1607 Meeting house, and amphitheater. He replied “Hello Thunder, I will be online tomorrow or no later than monday for sure... So we will be able to talk about your project. you can visit my website and have a preview of the different projects I made: http://phoenixdesigns-sl.com. Talk to you soon :)”
  • We are waiting to hear from KevinRB Techsan about his price for the VSTE HQ like his Cafe 101, 1607 Meeting house, and amphitheater for 50.

Regarding Monday, Feb. 23rd VSTE Evening Event.
MUSIC
  • Danny has responded to the music questions but Marie has not received either response. The listserv is till not working.
  • Marie will speak to Aaron, the band director, Monday about performing on Feb. 23 at the Pavilion. Danny wants pirate music, chamber emsemble.
  • Matt will research what it takes to live stream the band music from the convention center into SL. (Consider asking Louise for a resource who has done it before to assist.)
  • Kim wondered what hardware is needed for Live Music streaming, such as microphones.
  • Reveal the VSTE Island on Monday night, other sessions are at other educational sims.
  • Treasure hunt Monday night is only on VSTE Island
  • Ask Fara to help with notecards

ACTIVITY FOR PARTICIPANTS
  • We will create an inworld treasure hunt for Monday Night at VSTE (Feb. 23)
  • Our avatars will have pirate costumes.

HARDWARE CONCERNS AND METHOD OF PRESENTATION
  • Matt can come up with a tank PC that can run SL if we need it.
  • Marie and Lisa want to have us project each of our computers on a different screen at the same time with four wireless projectors. Jamestown had the screen side by side, panorama style.
  • Marie is checking with Marty for laptops he can loan us. (Bruce says they don’t have good graphics cards in them.) We might need Bill to talk to Marty for us about what we need.
  • Kim wonders if there is a vendor with great gaming laptops they can load us.

REGARDING THE SESSIONS WE ARE OFFERING

  • Sheila Terry and Christina Troxell have offered to help and need jobs/assignments.
  • Corla Kanik is willing to come via SL to talk about how SL has become his professional learning network.
  • Matt Poole (Cyrus Hush), Roanoke National College teacher, is going to help with our sessions.

POST VSTE CONFERENCE PLANS
  • We talked about setting up a weekly meeting on Mondays and having them be earlier than the typical 6 PM SLT.
